Kinship Youth

Kinship Youth range in age from 5-17 years old.

Direct service is provided to the youth through two major channels.

The first of these is the Kinship Volunteer/Mentor. Parent(s) give permission to have their child matched with an adult mentor.

A Volunteer/Mentor is recruited who can best match the need. This mentor is screened according to Wisconsin Best Practices for Mentoring and trained with a mentoring manual. Matching is based on interests, personality, and the ability to accept particular circumstances the child may be experiencing. This "match" meets on a regular basis and is monitored by Kinship Staff on a regular schedule.

The second being group activities for the entire family, community service opportunities, weekly "Teen Talk" sessions, integrating 4-H programming, training for Kinship Mentors, fundraisers, interagency collaboration, and State and National Kinship Board representation.

Kinship's goal is to support and encourage the child at home, at school and in the community. Presently the Kinship Youth Program serves 70 youth.
