Staff Accountant

POSITION: Staff Accountant

SUMMARY: The Staff Accountant works under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer. They record financial transactions by following GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and provides a variety of duties in coordinating and implementing financial procedures, basic principles, theories, and concepts of accounting, along with funding source guidelines, and federal, state, and local regulations. To act as an Ambassador to the Agency and to reflect all Agency matters in a positive way.

REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following:

· Meet reporting deadlines and support month- and year-end close processes

· Maintain financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts

· Reconcile all general ledger accounts monthly

· Prepare, verify, allocate, and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP standards

· Maintain the fixed assets and associated depreciation schedules.

· Prepares monthly financial reports for all programs/contracts.

· Assists with the responsibility of keeping expenditures in line with budgets and reporting to CFO.

· Reviews all programs at year end to prepare for the audit.

· Works closely with a variety of fiscal and program auditors.

· Contributes to the development and review of annual operating budgets.

· Meets with the CFO to review budgets and procedures.

· Data enters invoices, requisitions, journal vouchers and other documents for processing.

· Prepare and submit all funding requests from grant awards.

· Prepares and submits all Agency sales tax reports.

· Prepares ICAA allocations of expenses when needed.

· Performs all Agency bank reconciliations monthly.

· Assist the CFO with other responsibilities when needed.

· Attend staff meetings, training programs, and meetings as required.

· Performs related any other tasks as requested by CFO or CEO.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree in accounting is required. At least 1+ year of accounting experience preferred. Should have a working knowledge of GAAP. Thorough knowledge of state, federal and local regulations relating to finance. Strong organizational and record keeping skills.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders. Ability to demonstrate clear and complete oral and written communication, appropriate respect and good listening skills and ability to maintain confidentiality of all staff information. Communicate optimistically, positively, and with honesty and openness.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to problem-solve and use data to help guide decisions made by management. Ability to manage time efficiently and effectively and use program resources wisely. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, etc.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to analyze issues, identify potential strategies and implement effective plans to deal with situations involving leadership conflict resolution and staff management.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to maintain the boundaries of confidentiality, ability to prioritize and organize workload.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license with current vehicle insurance.
