Early Childhood Development Specialist
Responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of an age-appropriate educational environment and curriculum that promote socio-emotional, physical and cognitive growth for preschool children and support services to families. To act as an Ambassador to the Agency and to reflect all Agency matters in a positive way.
REPORTS TO: Education and Disability Coordinator
FLSA STATUS: Full Time, Non-Exempt
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prevention and Early Intervention/Disabilities
- Assist Teachers in the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum, which reflect mandated elements and components, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of bi-lingual preschool children.
- Assist Teachers in the development and implementation of a consistent classroom schedule, which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals and effective transitions.
- Assist Teachers in the observation of children and provide suggestions for behavior management and education programming to meet individual needs of all children.
- Recommend areas of improvement to classroom staff and promote training that reflects the individual needs of staff members and/or the team as a whole.
- Provide leadership and guidance for all classroom support staff and volunteers.
- Assist with interpreting screening results of children to determine developmental level and help Teachers plan accordingly.
- Participate in child/family staffing, when needed.
- Train and support the teachers/partners in TSGOLD and monitor data entry and progress on School Readiness Goals.
- Assist with reports, analysis of data and plans.
- Responsible for active supervision of all children during Head Start/EHS/CCP activities.
2. Mentor and Coach
- Mentor and coach Teachers in developmentally appropriate practices, Head Start Program Standards, Wisconsin Licensing Rules, ICAA service plans, home visits and parent/teacher conferences, and family literacy.
- Assess teacher skills and build upon based on individual needs.
- Track and monitor teachers to ensure they meet the minimum qualification/requirements as per performance standards; refer Teachers to CDA if needed.
3. Monitor and Report
- Complete monitoring tools as assigned to ensure implementation of HSPPS
- Prepare and submit monthly reports
- Develop and complete a monitoring system to be used with each classroom /teacher visit
4. Utilize Information Systems to Support Child / Family and Agency Outcomes.
- Monitor and report child abuse.
- Assist teachers in conducting child outcomes assessment as required and maintaining appropriate documentation on each child’s progress according to program policies.
- Keep and submit records and reports as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: B.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in early human development and appropriate programming.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license with current
vehicle insurance. Documentation of degree. Transcripts of post secondary education.

STARTING WAGE: $20.06 – $23.23/hour, based on experience.
