Head Start Assistant Director

The Head Start Assistant Director works in collaboration with the Head Start Director to plan, administer, and deliver services in the Head Start Program.  To act as an Ambassador to the Agency and to reflect all Agency matters in a positive way.

REPORTS TO: Head Start Director

FLSA STATUS: Full Time, Exempt – Administrative

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in the design of Head Start internal structures, systems and polices regarding Education, Disabilities, Professional Development, Health services to ensure Head Start Performance Standards and Child Care Rules and Regulations are met.
  • Ensure coordination among all components within the Head Start structure; encourage continuous improvement of systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications.
  • Assist in the development and management of the Head Start budget.
  • Provide support and leadership to all staff.
  • Supervise the school readiness goals, plans, and reports. 
  • Supervise the preparation of the Head Start PIR.
  • Attend interagency organizational and planning meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the annual self-assessment process.
  • Provide orientation to new coordinators and consultants.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the team. 
  • Ensure that in-service and professional development opportunities are provided for staff.
  • Support the development of Professional Development Plans.
  • Participate in the interview and hiring process of relevant staff.

NON – ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of current changes.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and inspire others to perform well.
  • Sets and achieves challenging goals.
  • Ability to handle highly stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrates self-confidence. Ability to manage others and embrace change.
  • Responsible for active supervision of all children during Head Start/EHS/CCP activities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  South, Central, and North Regional Managers

QUALIFICATIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the administrative and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, parents, and staff. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION: 

The individual in this position must have a bachelor’s degree and substantial administrative experience or equivalent experience and knowledge of principles of management, child development theories and practices, and/or expertise in fiscal and program management.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Valid driver’s license with current

vehicle insurance. Documentation of degree. Transcripts of post secondary education.

STARTING WAGE: $27-30/hour based on experience.

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends, as needed.
